Voodoo Cross Plane Firing order Camshafts
The Ford 5.2L Voodoo cylinder head is one of the highest-flowing naturally aspirated DOHC V8 cylinder head designs Ford has produced. While originally developed for the GT350 flat-plane engine, these heads are increasingly used on Coyote short blocks running the traditional cross-plane firing order.
GSC Power-Division camshafts are engineered specifically for these Voodoo head cross-plane applications, using the same proven camshaft profiles developed for the GT350 platform with the correct lobe phasing to match the cross-plane crankshaft configuration.
Our Voodoo camshaft profiles are developed using advanced computer simulation, decades of overhead valvetrain engineering experience, and real cylinder head flow data to precisely synchronize valve events with the airflow characteristics of the Voodoo head. The result is improved cylinder filling, stronger midrange torque, and increased top-end power.
At the core of every camshaft is GSC’s forged billet cam blank, manufactured in-house from bearing-grade alloy steel sourced from a single U.S. steel mill for absolute material consistency. Each camshaft is finished with our BLACK ISE surface treatment to reduce friction and provide exceptional wear protection under high spring loads and elevated engine speeds.
Precision-machined on advanced CNC equipment to tolerances tighter than OEM, these camshafts deliver the durability, consistency, and repeatable performance serious engine builders expect.
Camshafts are available for both the original GT350 flat-plane firing order and cross-plane Coyote applications using Voodoo cylinder heads.
When it comes to extracting maximum performance from Voodoo cylinder head combinations on cross-plane Coyote engines, GSC Power-Division delivers the valvetrain technology professional builders trust.
GSC Ford Mustang GT350 Camshaft Guide (Quick Compare)
| Profile | Intent | Fuel | RPM Band (Peak) | Valve Springs | Head Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| R2 | Top end stock-port / ported head race profile | Pump / Race / E85–E90 | 6,000–8,500 (8,100-8,300) | Upgrade required (GSC springs + Ti retainers) | Stock and ported heads | VCT retained; track-focused high-flow combos |
| R3 | Extreme race · ported heads | Methanol | Active: 7k–10k (9.1k-9.3k~9.6k-10k) · Locked: 6.7–9.5k (8.3k-8.5k~8.8k-9.2k) | Upgrade required (GSC springs + Ti retainers) | Ported heads | Active or locked VCT; timing refs on product page |
Notes: Always verify piston-to-valve clearance on your exact build. VCT strategy is tuner-dependent.
